Two-Tier Mezzanine Floor – Case Study

The client, based near Cambridge is a popular supplier of household furnishings.

Having recently relocated to new premises which included a 50,000 sq ft warehouse and offices, they wanted a showroom to showcase their products to prospective clients. Unfortunately the offices did not offer sufficient space to allow for this so a two tier mezzanine was chosen.

The ground and first floor was utilised as the showroom and the second floor is used for storage. The floor measures 20,000mm x 7500mm with finished floor levels at 3200mm and 6400mm. The floor was designed for 500kg m/2.

A structural survey was carried out to determine the suitability of the slab. This resulted in the columns requiring larger than standard baseplates. Once the mezzanine had been built the columns, fascias and underside of the ceilings were fire rated to 60 minutes. A walkway was installed between the first floor of the offices and the mezzanine allowing easy access between the two.

We are extremely delighted with the project result – the client is now proudly showcasing their products to prospective clients.
